Inion Oy is a medical devices company focused on the development and commercialisation of innovative biodegradable and bioactive implants for applications in Spine and Specialty Orthopaedics applications. By targeting key strategic markets in the USA and select territories in the rest of the world, Inion has built a product portfolio sold through a dedicated network of specialist distributors. Inion’s products include biodegradable plates, screws, pins and membranes, which are used to enhance the healing of bone or soft tissue injuries, such as those caused by trauma or by reconstructive surgery. Inion’s core expertise is in the design and manufacture of implants from its proprietary Inion Optima™ family of biomaterials, which enables the Company to develop medical implants with properties tailored for specific surgical applications, in terms of strength, flexibility and rate of degradation. Inion was established in 1999 and incorporated in 2000 in Tampere, Finland, by an internationally recognised team of experts both in surgery and from the medical device industry, bringing significant experience in device development, bioengineering, polymer technology, manufacturing, business development, product commercialisation and international sales and marketing. Since then, world-class commercial professionals from the medical devices sector in the US & EU have been recruited to form a powerful, well-rounded team with extensive sales, marketing and business development experience to facilitate rapid commercialisation from the strong R&D base. Inion sells products globally in five clinical segments: spine, orthopaedics, sports medicine, cranio-maxillofacial and dental. Following a strategic review in 2006/07, Inion is focusing on spine and specialty orthopaedics in key international markets, primarily the USA and select markets in Europe and the Rest of the World. Inion listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange in December 2004 (ticker: IIN) raising €58m in its IPO. The Company has offices in the UK and USA, and its head office, R&D and manufacturing facilities are in Tampere, Finland.
