Mini-Open Lateral Approach Trochleoplasty for Patellar Dislocation: Recent Publication by Dr. Petri Sillanpää

A recent publication by Dr. Petri Sillanpää presents a mini-open lateral approach thin-flap trochleoplasty technique for the treatment of trochlear dysplasia associated with recurrent patellar dislocation. The publication was recently published in the Video Journal of Sports Medicine.

The publication presents a less-invasive surgical technique that preserves the integrity of the cartilage and enables rapid postoperative recovery. The method allows an immediate range of motion and full weight-bearing, helping to prevent stiffness and promote early return to activity.

In this surgical technique, the osteochondral flap fixation is performed using a single Ø 2.7 mm bioabsorbable Inion CompressOn™ screw. The fixation provides stable support for the reshaped trochlea and facilitates optimal cartilage healing. Long-term magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) follow-up (>5 years) demonstrates good cartilage integrity and positive patient outcomes.
